The Mis-Aventures of Kare and Mare: New Book on Amazon Kindle

Good day everyone, and welcome to Leisure Lane. I hope you’re enjoying the last of autumn. It seems to go by much too quickly for me. Today is raining and quite lovely – a perfect autumn day to curl up and read a good book – after the real Good Book, that is ;).

Speaking of books, I’m happy to announce that those two beloved characters, Kare and Mare, and their unique way of looking at life are now on Amazon Kindle. The mis-Adventures of Kare and Mare: You’re such a goddess, contains all their funny goodness in one place, where you can enjoy them any time/anyplace. Life can have challenges, but learning to see the cup half full with a bit of humor makes the journey so much more enjoyable – don’t you think? I know Kare and Mare do.

Thank you for strolling by the Lane today. I hope you enjoy what you see. God is good, and His mercy endures forever, and that Truth never fails. May you be blessed today, and…

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Mug Rugs Galore

Autumn ensemble

Good Tuesday, everyone! I’m so glad you’ve strolled by the lane to visit. Since June my hands have been creating all sorts of yarn and fabric goodies. As you can see I’ve been quite busy knitting and crocheting mug rugs galore (also known as dishcloths or pot handle holders). Some to give away and some to keep. Just getting the above photo was worth making them.

I enjoy putting my morning cup of coffee or tea on them – it’s such a cozy feeling.

I’ve been finding good tutorials on Pinterest and learning all sorts of new and simple crochet and knitting patterns that I can practice while making these mug rugs and dishcloths.

Still on my autumn theme, I made this set for my friend, M. and presented them tied together with an autumn bow.

A set of 4 did the trick in the very first diagonal pattern I learned from another friend. I posted the pattern some years ago, but if you didn’t see it, you can get it on my Summer Potholders post. You can whip these babies out in no time and make them any size you desire. It’s a perfect pattern for beginners, too. Trust me, I know…I was a knit-whit ( 😉 ) when it came to knitting.

Since I was learning new patterns, I surprised her in her mailbox with this cute one and a letter of “thanks” for teaching me to knit. She loved it and said it came at a most poignant and perfect time. It made her know God was caring for her. Again, another God-gifting moment. They are amazing!

So, you can see I’ve been having a lot of fun making these in all different colors and patterns.

By the way, aren’t those little spring eggs in wire baskets the sweetest things? I bought them years ago at a small tea room and gift shop.

for my friend, K. (you may know her as Kare, from Kare and Mare).

The Linen Stitch in crochet. This is a very easy stitch and works up very quickly.

Well, that’s all for now. I hope you were inspired to get out the yarn and create something fun for you or a friend. Visit me on Pinterest, where you can find most of these and more crochet and knit patterns. If you try them or have worked these patterns before, please share. I’d love to hear about it.

Thank you for visiting, for your comments, and for your support. I look forward to sharing more fun things with you, so…

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Easy-Peasy Homemade Natural Deodorant

img_2373Coconut Oil Deodorant

Good day, and thank you for strolling by Leisure Lane.

As I mentioned in my last post, I’ve been doing more natural things for a healthier me.  This all-natural homemade deodorant is one of those things.

It’s a simple recipe, yet works wonders, and I’ll never use anything else again.  If you’d like to make your own, the recipe is as follows:

1 tablespoon arrowroot powder (for thickener)
1 to 2 tablespoon extra virgin, unfiltered, cold-pressed coconut oil
1/8  to 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda**

In a bowl mix the ingredients until smooth, then transfer it into a clean container.  Play with the ingredients to see how much of the arrowroot you need to get it to the right consistency.  I sometimes add more.

The arrowroot powder works as a thickener.  Arrowroot can usually be found in the spice section of the grocery store, but if you can’t find it, you can most likely use cornstarch or tapioca powder.   Coconut oil is absolutely wonderful and has many uses.  In this recipe it helps to keep down the bacteria that causes odors.  So even on its own you get some protection.  The baking soda helps to eliminate or absorb odors, so its an extra addition to the anti-odor solution.

All in all, I am amazed with how wonderful this deodorant works!  And it’s not just for the ladies…it works very well on men, too.

***Though I haven’t had a problem, baking soda can severely irritate some skin types, which is why I added very little.  Some of the recipes on the internet add way too much, and many people complain of a burning reaction.  If you decide to make it, start out with the lower dose, and see how that works for you.  Everyone is different, so do what you think is best for you.  But, I firmly believe that the baking soda should be a minimal ingredient.

You can double the recipe if need be.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this.  Let me know what homemade products you use, if any, and how they work for you.  Thank you, again for visiting.  May your day be filled with blessings.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Kare and Mare: Out with the Old

Kare and Mare 38

Sometimes it’s hard getting rid of our tried and true belongings, but usually we’re only as good as our equipment.  We can get attached to just about anything.  But have you ever noticed that after so many years more than one thing needs to be replaced at one time.

I have a pair of brown shoes that I think a lot of.  I’ve had them for a kazillion years, and they’re really worn out.  But I just can’t seem to part with them, though I know I’ll have to soon because wearing worn out shoes can’t be good for my feet.

Thank you for visiting Leisure Lane today, and to my new follower, “Welcome”!

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Kare and Mare: Peace Be With You

Kare and Mare 37

“Seek and you shall find…” can have its glitches at times, but consistent persistence is the key.  The trick is to keep ones peace, because frustration can block an otherwise easily obtained answer.  I think Mare will come to her senses, and realize that God’s never withholding anything good from us, He’s just waiting for us to calm down long enough to receive.

May you find peace in your heart today to receive every blessing with your name on it.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

For God’s Sake: The New Disciple

New Disciple 8

Hello friends,

The new disciple takes a good place up front…as close to Jesus as possible.  She doesn’t want to miss out on anything, but it seems she has so many questions she’s holding up progress.  Have you ever done that…felt as if you had to understand every little thing in order to move forward?  Yet, in all the analyzing there is an interruption in the process and things move slower.  It’s a good thing to ask questions and to want to understand how things work in order to utilize them better, and that includes Spiritual laws. But sometimes we just need to take His Word for it, begin putting them into practice, and the understanding will come to light on its own.

Well, this is the last of “For God’s Sake”.  I hope they made you laugh, while helping you progress through your wonderful journey.  During the posting of these I received some ideas for a few more, so when I get them down on paper, I’ll post them.  In the meantime Kare and Mare will be back to make you smile.

May your day be bright and shining, and may every blessing you need or desire be manifested through your faith.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

For God’s Sake: The New Disciple

New Disciple 1

Hello friends,

Well, as promised, here is the first of 8 in the adventures of the new disciple.  “For God’s Sake” was inspired while I was doing Kare and Mare.  I really can’t remember the actual ‘thing’ which triggered the comic panel, but I’m sure it was something funny.

It is based on the idealistic daydream of a woman whose heart is passionate toward God.  She imagines what it would have been like if she had been disciple of the physical Jesus of Nazareth.  But her little “quirkies’ seem to pop up.  Jesus certainly is a patient man.  He loves and accepts her anyway, hoping her quirks will eventually diminish under his tutelage…and if anyone has a chance of getting his hopes manifested it certainly would be Him.

I wrote this during the 18 months that God wooed me into his love, and I’ve been enamored ever since.

I am very blessed that God has gifted me with talents that allow me to express every bit of who I am…they have been a venue by which to express my hopes, my desires, my dreams, my passions, and have even been quite therapeutic during certain circumstances in my life.  In all of it I relish the fact that God inspires me to put down on paper or canvas, in various inspired mediums, all that is inside of me.   My hope in sharing these is that they make you laugh…they do me.  After all, if you can’t laugh at yourself, who can you really laugh at?  But, as all I create, they have provided good insights, and I treasure them for that.

Thank you for visiting me here at Leisure Lane.  I always enjoy your visits, and treasure your comments.  May you find laughter and joy in this day, dear ones.

Until next time, may happy days abound!
