Kare and Mare Comics

Hello, and welcome to the “Kare and Mare” page here on Leisure Lane.

“Kare and Mare” was conceived in 2005 based on some telephone conversations between my friend, Karen, and I.  We had some good giggles, so I began to visualize them and write them down.  As each cartoon was created, I’d call her and describe it to her, and we would laugh our tummies into shape.  As it was highly therapeutic for both us, it truly made the proverb come alive, “A merry heart is good like medicine.”

The “Kare and Mare” cartoons sat a long time on the shelf, so I’ve decided to dust them off, and share them with the world.

Kare and Mare may not see as well as they use to (though they’ll never admit to it), have a few hot flashes here and there, but they certainly still have some mojo to work with.  They’re learning the art of taking care of themselves with lots of humor.  They love life and desserts, and you’ll often see them at their favorite “Cafe DeSerrte” shop.  So stay tuned for the antics of Kare and Mare, and Kare’s little dog, Vanilla.  Enjoy!!

Reminds me of some cartoons that I drew of my Army experiences. I might still have them in a trunk somewhere. The funniest records the time when I was on a night patrol in the woods in Germany, and heard weird sounds coming from one of the chemical toilets that we had to one side of the camp. Much more modern than the holes that we used to dig in the ground before that. I kicked open the door, and shone my torch into the chamber. In the bright beam I saw an officer kneeling over the dunny with his head stuck down the the business part. He turned and looked at me and said, “Marvelous Sapper Mitchell. Shine your torch down here. I’ve dropped my wallet!”

You can imagine that this made a wonderful cartoon. I wish I could find it.

Hi, my fave was the one with the log cabin quilting! These are very innocent-looking cartoons, and I enjoyed them very much.
