Novellas are Making a Popular Comeback

Check out my author’s page to see this and more books.

Hi, everyone. Hope you are enjoying the beginning of this new year with good health.

Allow me to tell you why I love writing shortstories and novellas. I can pack a lot of story into a short amount of reading time, which allows the reader to relax with a good story (and their favorite cup o’) without having to take too much time out of their busy schedules to finish it. I believe novellas are seeing a popular comeback. I’d love to hear what you think about the subject.

Thank you for stopping by Leisure Lane, and…

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Two Blah Items into One Pretty Piece

Good day everyone, and welcome to Leisure Lane. Grab your favorite cup o’ and relax as we stroll down another creative path.  About a month ago, I purchased a rather blah glass vase on sale at Tuesday Morning and glass dish at my local thrift store. The glass vase had wonderful potential with the swirling design, but it’s function needed a change. So, I primed it, painted it white, and distressed it.

I “blushed” the underside of the glass dish to bring out the design…light green on the leaves, pink for the flowers, and a light blue for the tiny center flowers. Then I attached the dish to the top of the vase. Now, it’s a perfect dish pedestal for any room and can hold jewelry, potpourri, fruit, cookies, finger sandwiches, or simply pretty on its own – you get the idea.

Well, that’s all for today. I hope you are all well, and you’re inspired to do something that brings some pretty into your life. And speaking of which…

A Little Something Extra

One of my LinkedIn Network friends, Kristen Marie Schmidt, has a mission to help others bring back pretty, and her book, 30 Ways To Bring Pretty Back, is her newest way of inspiring prettiness in everyone’s life. You can check it out on Amazon or check out her Bring Pretty Back website.

Happy St. Valentine’s Day Inspiration

Hello visitors, and welcome…

St. Valentine’s Day is a day of Love, and I’ve chosen three red objects to symbolize the three parts of our being which crave our love.   If we nurture these separate parts, they will fundamentally work beautifully as a whole, allowing us to love ourselves and others more deeply and healthfully.

☼ Red gogi berries ~ to nourish and restore our bodies

☼  A red candle ~ to restore tranquility to our minds

☼ A red heart ~ to feed our souls

It’s also my birthday on Valentine’s day, and a reminder for new beginnings.  And those new beginnings begin with me.  A new beginning of harmony and balance ~ peace and love.

Love begins in the home ~ not only the geographical home, but the inward one as well.  I’ve chosen to be re-illuminated to these fundamentals of perfect living.

So I wish everyone of you a Happy St. Valentine’s Day full of balance, peace, and love.  A day to remember to love not only those dear to us, but also, and most especially, ourselves.  A day to restore wholeness to our being so that we can love more richly.

Until next time, may happy days abound.

Note ~ the little heart pendant was a Valentine gift, made and given to me by my son when he was in kindergarten 16 years ago.  I wear it every year.

The Lighthouse

Good day everyone.  I hope you are all well.  I saw a photo of a lighthouse today and it inspired me to write the following.  May something simple inspire you to do something great today, too.

The Lighthouse

The lighthouse stood before me;
‘Twas not so very tall,
But its light, it shone most brightly
For all to see its call.

“Beware,” it warns the ships at sea;
“Beware, and come not near.
For there are rocks beneath your sight.
Make haste, make haste to veer.”

The light within her never dims;
Her purpose never fails.
Not through clear and moonlit nights
Nor fog or stormy gales.

She knows the light she carries
Is the One who dwells within.
As long as He remains in her
The ships will always win.

The lesson learned so plainly
From the lighthouse sure and true,
Is for anyone who wonders –
It’s for me and it’s you.

For your height it doesn’t matter;
Nor your strength or muscle power.
The Light that lives within your walls
Will conquer every hour.

More Sweet Vintage

IMG_2236Good day, friends…

I hope you are experiencing a bit cooler temps than we are here.  It was 113 yesterday! And if you aren’t then I pray you all remain as cool as possible, and enjoy what is left of the summer.

It seems heaven is having fun blessing me with a couple of more cottage warming blessings.  As I was dropping off more boxes filled with donations to my local charity shop, I stayed inside for a while to cool off, and these delightful beauties called my name.  This dresser topper’s hand embroidered baskets of abundant flowers echo my feelings of abundant blessings.

IMG_2237The colors are so pretty, and the crochet edging simply delights me.  All the loving care that went into these will not be underestimated by me.

IMG_2239The scallop sides add a graceful touch, don’t you think?

IMG_2235And this little beauty, is the exact color of two crocheted edged squared linens I bought once at a garage sale.  So it will match perfectly with them, especially with my autumn decor.

These were such fun and pleasant little surprises, which I am so grateful for.  And all they need is a little gentle washing and blocking again so they can shine their best.

Thank you for letting me share these with you today.  I must get to my continued packing and organizing.  I will be very busy with all of this for the next few weeks, so if I miss coming by your blogs, know that I am thinking of you, and will be visiting you as soon as I can.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Love Grows Here

Good day to all,

It’s so nice to see your shining light, gracing my corner of the world on Leisure Lane.  I hope you are all well.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I am moving.  So to update you, the date has been finalized, and I’ll be transferring to my new place the end of this month.  I’ll be quite busy preparing, so I may or may not be able to post much, so please bear with ♥

I’ve been making some stops at our local charity/thrift store, donating some things as I clear away some of the old to make way for the new.  But I usually take a quick look around to see what treasures they may have acquired (I have to remind myself NOT to purchase back my own things 😉 ).

My recent trip presented me with the above sweetness.  Isn’t she a beauty?  So lovingly cross stitched…and the sentiment is perfect; something I want to surround myself with – Love Grows Here.  I haven’t decided what I want to do with it yet…a pillow, or hem and crochet the edges, or simply framed.  I may frame it for now until I decide.

IMG_2234Every time I look at it, I’ll enjoy the colors, and appreciate the time that each little stitch required.

I hope you enjoyed your stroll by here today.  Remember to grow love wherever you are…seed it, water it, and shine your smiles upon it.  Then give it into the hands of the Eternal One, and watch it bloom, coloring your Life in so many wonderful ways.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

New Find for New Beginnings

IMG_2231Good day, Friends,

I’m so glad you are joining me today because I’d like to show you this lovely vintage table runner I found at my local thrift store.  As you may know, I am making some changes in my life.  At the moment I’m not sure where or when, but nevertheless, changes are on the horizon.  So I’ve been cleaning and clearing out some things in my apartment.  When I brought some items to the thrift store, I noticed this perfectly cheerful, hand embroidered vintage table runner.

IMG_2232The colors are exactly my cup of tea, and isn’t the crochet edging divine?  It had nary a spot and was as crisp and clean as could be.  It felt and looked like it had been lovingly taken care of and starched.  I apologize for the wrinkles in it.  They occurred in my car while folded from all the heat and humidity.  But wrinkles can be ironed out – at least on linens 😉

I have very rarely seen items like this in this particular shop, and so I feel like this is a God present for my new beginnings, and I am delightfully grateful!!  ♥ ♥ ♥

While I’m showing you some pretty things, here are the other cups I bought some time back at my local Tuesday Morning. If you missed the post with the first cup, you can view it here.

Love the colors and this also has the flowers inside the cup for cheery sipping.

IMG_2182Although I’m not a wide mug person, I couldn’t resist this pretty thing with the blue toile look.  Both of these cups are made in England, and are such fun for me.

Thank you for strolling by today.  I hope you enjoyed your visit.  I love hearing from you, so don’t be shy, and say ‘hello’.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

If Only Once…A new Poem

If Only Once

There is no sleep,
I cannot rest.
My soul is sore within my breast,
And hidden so that none should know
Her sadness and forbidden woe.

How oft I wished she knew the mirth
That should have lightened her at birth,
And never felt the rough of life
That pushed her into endless strife.

How oft I wished she never felt
The cold, grim hearts with tongues like belts,
That flicked her back ‘till it was raw,
Then mocked at all the pain they saw.

If only once my soul could fly
And leer at evil in the eye,
And push their backs against the wall –
Poor excuses, tongues, and all!

But, nay, my only solace be
That my sweet soul hides within me.
Behind an ever growing wall
Where only God can hear her call.

I couldn’t sleep last night until this was released.  May your day be a good one, and …

Until next time, may happy days abound!
