Thrift Store Finds

IMG_2168Good day, Friends…and welcome to Leisure Lane!

Yesterday I decided to visit my local thrift store, and though I couldn’t fit in all the sweet finds in the photo, I’d like to share a few with you today.  I love pretty boxes and I pick them up whenever I can at my local dollar store.  They don’t always have them, but when I see a pretty one, I purchase it.  At the thrift store I found this sweet one…in perfect condition, with a garden theme.  I love the soft colors, and inside the lid it reads, “Little pleasures are life’s greatest treasures”.

I found a lovely cream colored tea towel…well, I believe it could be used as one…I plan to crochet the edges…it could also be used as small table topper.  It’s also in perfect condition.  Found some lovely ribbons, borders, as well as brocade fabrics, and a valance that I will use the fabric for making some things I’ve been wanting to try.

IMG_2170I found an unopened package of MS Double Horse (trademark) cotton tap from Karachi, which I wrapped around a plastic holder.  I can’t find any information about it on the internet, so if anyone knows what it was used for, please enlighten me.  I can think of all sorts of things I will use it for, but I’d like to know its original use.

IMG_2171I can’t wait to begin this cross stitch I found.  Isn’t it delightful?

There were other things, also, like white millinery leaves, pink butterflies, a yellow gingham napkin, and more.  I wish I could share them all with you, but I’m a bit pressed for time today.  I’ll share what I make with them, as time goes on.

In the meantime have a wonderful week, be blessed…and until next time, may happy days abound!

Welcome Baby

IMG_2107Hello Friends, and welcome to Leisure Lane.

Sharing today a sweet hanging card made for welcoming baby.  I just love Bessie Pease Gutmann’s work, and chose “Awakening” for the card.  Growing up, I remember this print hanging in our home.  I always loved it.  I used some vintage binding tape that I lightly dyed and crinkled.

Hope your day is full of awakenings.  Until next time, may happy days abound.\!

Hanging Decorative Valentine or Anytime Card

IMG_2099 filtered sidesGood day everyone, and thank you for strolling by Leisure Lane today.

Yesterday I made a large hanging decorative card using one of the lovely vintage images I’ve been collecting.  It’s not a sunny day here today, so I did my best with the photo.

I certainly hope that you never give up on the song in your heart.

A Little Something Extra

IMG_20141218_180259(1)Back in October I made a tag called “Wedding Bliss” for a couple at work who were getting married.  About a month after the wedding, the young woman said that she was going through her wedding photos, and happened upon the one above that resembled the image on the tag.  She was so excited and put it on her facebook, and sent me a copy.  I was thrilled!  You never know how poignantly you may touch the lives of others.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Good day, friends…

Welcome to Leisure Lane, where I’ve been creating some gift boxes.  It was inspired by a lovely decorated match box I won a few years ago from the talented Terri, and her delightful blog, Artful Affirmations.  This one I decided to keep for myself.  It was my first try, and I’m very happy with the way it turned out.

IMG_1680 The colors are so soothing that I decided to use it in my meditation, and it’s perfect for keeping pretty ribbons, lace remnants, buttons, or beads for future projects…don’t you think?   I’ve created a second box which I’ll share in my next post.

You can also see my paper creations on my new Pinterest board.  I just started it, and hope to add more boards soon.

Thank you for stopping by today.  May your day be full of pretty things.  Until next time, may happy days abound!

One For A Neighbor

IMG_1637 faded edgeHappy New Year, friends,

Welcome once again to Leisure Lane, where I’ve made one more wall hanger, this time for my friend and neighbor.  She liked aspects of the last two I created, so I decided to combine the design.

IMG_1638The image she chose was already on my mind…it’s very ‘her’…and I had a feeling that’s the one she would like.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I’ve been working on “The Heart of Annie” book, but I’m glad I was able to art it up a bit today, and share with you.  May you all experience a very happy, healthy, and prosperous 2014.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Old Inspirations

Hello friends, and welcome to Leisure Lane…

Today I’m sharing some interesting card ideas that I worked with some years ago.  I had made quite a few different versions with different stamp designs, and I came across some of what I had left over.  Yes, you heard me…stamps…the white paper inserts are handmade ‘paper’ using rubber stamps and glue water.

IMG_1601 Sun stamp paper with an added dry brushing of gold craft paint.

It’s an easy process, so if you’ve never done this before, you might want to give it a try.  All you need is your favorite rubber stamp, some water in a small cup or container (you don’t need a lot).  Add some all purpose craft glue to the water and mix thoroughly.  Then you’ll need some facial tissue or bathroom tissue.  You’ll be adding these in layers.

First turn your stamp rubber side up.  Then lay a piece of tissue over the stamp.  The size of the tissue should exceed the size of the stamp image.  You can always cut or tear away any excess you don’t want.  Then dip a small paint brush in the water/glue mixture and begin dabbing the tissue into the image.  Be careful not to tear the tissue.  Then add another layer using the same process, and continue to desired thickness.

When you’ve completed the desired layers, carefully lift the paper from the image and place on a piece wax paper or other safe item to dry – preferably overnight.  The paper will be stiff and perfect for decorating cards, canvases, etc.  Remember to clean off your rubber stamp and brush with warm soap and water.

IMG_1606You can use the image in its original beautiful white, or you can add color to it, as I’ve done here.  I used some colored powders.

IMG_1603You can also add a bit of ‘fairy dusting’ (glitter) to the image for some extra appeal.

Decorate on cards as desired.  These are really fun to make and have endless possibilities.  I need to make more to have on hand.  I like to have things on hand and then when I want to make something, the only thing needed is imagination.

For the sake of brevity and simplicity, I’ll share another great idea to use on cards in my next post.  I hope you enjoyed this.  If  you’ve done this before, or would like to try it, let me know how you did.  I appreciate your visits and comments.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Noel Christmas Hanger

IMG_1591Hello One and All,

Welcome to Leisure Lane, where inspiration is given a helping hand from blogger friends.  Above, I used what I had on hand (I’m in the process of rebuilding my craft supplies), and created this sweet Christmas hanger.  The idea was inspired by Lynne at Adorn.  so if you’d like to know more about the project, pop over and check it out.

As I said, I used what I had on hand quickly, as I started the project at 4 pm…does anyone else do that?  I don’t know why I get inspired so late, but I suppose inspiration comes when and as it will.  I had a piece of sweet Christmas paper, and where the prints were located (text and images) worked perfectly for wrapping around the bathroom tissue tube base.

The Noel greeting with bird is from a tag that came in a selection I bought at the Dollar Tree.  It already was amply glittered, but I added more to make it pop.

IMG_1592On the back the bow image fit perfectly.

I hope to make some more, filled with something good, to give to friends.  I’ve found some more pretty paper, and little ornaments to add.

Thank you for visiting me today.  It’s always a pleasure to ‘see’ you.  Until next time, may happy days abound!
