If Only Once…A new Poem

If Only Once

There is no sleep,
I cannot rest.
My soul is sore within my breast,
And hidden so that none should know
Her sadness and forbidden woe.

How oft I wished she knew the mirth
That should have lightened her at birth,
And never felt the rough of life
That pushed her into endless strife.

How oft I wished she never felt
The cold, grim hearts with tongues like belts,
That flicked her back ‘till it was raw,
Then mocked at all the pain they saw.

If only once my soul could fly
And leer at evil in the eye,
And push their backs against the wall –
Poor excuses, tongues, and all!

But, nay, my only solace be
That my sweet soul hides within me.
Behind an ever growing wall
Where only God can hear her call.

A Cup of Grace

IMG_2161Happy weekend, dear friends…

Thank you for joining me here at Leisure Lane.  I hope you enjoy your visit.

Today, I’m quickly sharing another one of my journal pages.  A continuation from a former similar post.  If you missed it you can check it out here. I apologize that this one is a bit fuzzy (no it’s not your eyes…aren’t you relieved?).  I promise to do better in the future :/

These are fun and relaxing to do at the end of the day, and I would encourage anyone to try it.  Just jotting down or doodling or both anything that comes to mind.  Something cheery for the heart to ponder, and to fall asleep by; grace for the soul.  Well, I hope you enjoyed them, and something spoke to you from this page.

Just a reminder about my Kindle book giveaways, of The Heart of Annie…The Strength of God. TWO lucky winners will be picked in the June 25th drawing.  If you haven’t read about it, and you’d like to enter, click here and leave a comment letting me know before June 25th 8:00 am CST.

May your day be filled with pretty things, and…Until next time, may happy days abound!

An Open Heart Never Grows Old

Hello dear friends, and welcome to Leisure Lane…

I certainly hope you are all experiencing a delightful day in one way or another.  As I may have mentioned before, every evening I’ve been writing in my gratitude journal, which also turned out to be an affirmation journal.  I seem to evolve in how and what I write in them.  My latest journal book was given to me by my sweet neighbor.  I love that it has a blank page on the left for drawing or special sayings, and a lined page on the right for writing.

I’ve decided to share some of my doodles, if you will…things that come to mind that evening.  This part relaxes me very much, and it’s during the doodling that I really release the angst of work.

I hope in my sharing some of my pages, you can glean something that will inspire you, or bring you joy.  And I hope that your day is filled with happy thoughts and peace of mind.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Flowers Bring Joy

IMG_1005“Flowers have such happy faces. They must know what joy they bring.” Marianne Coyne

Have you gone out to thank your flowers today?  They are such noble friends – filling our senses with love and happiness. And many times most resilient, no matter how shabbily we may unwittingly treat them.

May your day be filled with floral bliss, and until next time, may happy days abound!

Hanging Decorative Valentine or Anytime Card

IMG_2099 filtered sidesGood day everyone, and thank you for strolling by Leisure Lane today.

Yesterday I made a large hanging decorative card using one of the lovely vintage images I’ve been collecting.  It’s not a sunny day here today, so I did my best with the photo.

I certainly hope that you never give up on the song in your heart.

A Little Something Extra

IMG_20141218_180259(1)Back in October I made a tag called “Wedding Bliss” for a couple at work who were getting married.  About a month after the wedding, the young woman said that she was going through her wedding photos, and happened upon the one above that resembled the image on the tag.  She was so excited and put it on her facebook, and sent me a copy.  I was thrilled!  You never know how poignantly you may touch the lives of others.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Summer Potholders

Hello everyone,

In a previous post, in which I featured similar potholders, a viewer requested the pattern.  So today, in featuring my pretty, summery potholder set, I am also offering the pattern for diagonal knitted potholders.  They’re so easy to make and if you are a minimal knitter, such as myself, they are perfect to try.

The following pattern is for mini potholders, but you can continue with the pattern for any size you want.  I created one large and two mini contrasting potholders.  Let your imagination soar.

Mini Pot Holders

Size 6 needles
cotton yarn – Peaches ‘n Cream or Sugar and Cream

Cast on 3 stitches.
Row 1 – Knit across the 3 stitches.
Row 2 – Knit 2, Yarn Over (YO), knit across.  Knit Row 2 until there are 27 stitches on needle.

Next Row – (Decrease) Knit 1, Knit 2 together, YO, Knit 2 together, Knit across.
Continue decrease row until you have 5 stitches.
Knit 1, Knit 2 together, Knit 2 together.  3 stitches left.
Next Row – Knit across the 3 stitches.
Bind off 3 stitches.

There is a lovely knitted edging that is formed with this pattern.  In the above photo, however, I added a crocheted edging to the existing one.  So just be creative.  I’d love to hear how yours turn out.

Thank you for visiting Leisure Lane.  I hope you found something here to enjoy.  Until next time, may happy days abound!

Additional Information Update:

Oh, by the way, I neglected to say that these cotton threads tend to bleed a bit when washed, so pre-wash with some vinegar in the water to set the colors.

“Softly Spring”

IMG_1751 Good day Leisure Lane visitors, and welcome!

I’ve been away from the computer for this week, as I’ve an injured shoulder tendon which is healing quickly, thank God! Luckily I had previously typed this post.

Well, I’ve been in the process of organizing and simplifying things in my life and on my blog, and My Little Bloomin’ Shop is one of them.  I don’t have a lot in the shop at the moment, and perhaps the shop will only have a few items at a time.

Recently, I’ve been in the process of decorating gift boxes.  I’ve given some as gifts, and I’ve decided to put some in my shop for sale.  They are just so pretty that I enjoy simply looking at them.  They are quite cheerful.

“Softly Spring” is bursting with the colors and promise of the well loved season.  The handmade polymer clay rose above the portrait is accentuated with little rose petals trailing down.  I  created the roses and petals some years ago for other projects I was working on, and I have some left in my stash, which I’ve been using in special projects.  The primary ribbon is a lovely sheer pink, which echos the softness and airiness of Spring…then a bit of sheer green delight for accent. (Click on image for larger view)

IMG_1758With “Softly Spring” I used a different patterned paper for the bottom that I think sets a nice tone to the piece.

IMG_1754You can find “Softly Spring” for sale for a limited time in My Bloomin’ Little Shop.  In the meantime, I’ll be working on some other projects as well as continuing to simplify, simplify, simplify. (Sorry this item is no longer available for sale).

Thank you for strolling by.  I hope you enjoyed your visit.  May you be blessed today with good things and happy thoughts.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Angels We Have Heard On High

Good day, friends, and welcome to Leisure Lane…

I’ve been busy the last few days making some very wonderful Christmas hangers.  Lynne from Adorn inspired me with hers, and I’ve been on a roll ever since.  I think they make really nice little gifts…something to be cherished for years to come..unless you sit on it :/ …so keep them hanging.

IMG_1610I think I’ll keep this one for myself

The angel hanger was made using a lovely angel pendent.  I added a bit of netting which I sprinkled with some glitter.  The glitter doesn’t show up very well in the photo, but it sparkles nicely in light, which adds a nice touch.  For the hanger I used a lovely cord with gold thread entwined within it.  The gold echoes the gold of the pendent.

I used the same paper and green lace as the last hanger, but with a different ‘twist’.  As I continued making these my imagination really started to soar.  So stay tuned for my next two Christmas hangers, because I think you’re really going to like them.

Christ.Pin Society new lookAnd for those of you who are new to Leisure Lane, you can still order my novella, “The Christmas Pin Society”…it’s a great story to read even after Christmas when the hustle and bustle has calmed a bit.  It will keep the holiday mood alive.  You can order your favorite version from the sidebar.  And if you’d like to read a synopsis and some reviews, click on my Novella page to find out more.  I look forward to seeing you again soon.  Update…The Christmas Pin Society is at the moment offered on Amazon Kindle only.

Until next time, may happy days abound!
