Handmade Jack O’Lantern

Good day, friends…

Welcome to Leisure Lane…Thank you for strolling by today and visiting.

Halloween is just around the corner, and I made myself a note to enjoy a few decorations for the occasion.  I like to take out my homemade Jack O’ Lantern, who always greets me with his funny smile leading up to the big day.  He was so easy to make – scrap cottons, black felt, buttons, a twig, polyester stuffing, and a bit of green floral wiring to top it off.  Do you have a special or favorite handmade Halloween item you like to put out every year?  I’d love to hear about it.

May you have a fun and blessed weekend, and…

Until next time, may happy days abound!

River Runs Deep Book Launch

Good day, and I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying a delightful autumn.  I am very excited to announce that my new novella, River Runs Deep is now available on Amazon Kindle!  If you like Hallmark style love stories, you are going to love this.

Added note 10/18/2017:  I forgot to mention that there are two recipes from the story at the end of the book – Elsie’s Rose Water Scones and Catherine’s Peppermint Water.  A little something extra for you to enjoy!

Though it’s a fiction, the foundation of the story is based on an experience I had many, many years ago.  One that I will cherish forever.  I promised to tell you how I came to write this book, so here is the story.

A few days before Mother’s day 2016, I had a dream of an Native American chief.  The dream is mentioned in the book, so I won’t go into detail here.  When I asked him who he was he said, “I am Faith.”  That Mother’s Day, I was working at the store, and stopped by to visit my sweet friend, who worked in another department there before going home.  I wasn’t thinking about the dream, but we were talking and having fun and something reminded me of the sweet encounter I had when I was 20 years old. I hadn’t related the story to anyone in decades, but I told her about it, and without hesitation, she excited announced, “Oh, my gosh, that’s so romantic – that’s your next Hallmark romance story!!”  And a little over a year later, here it is.

Well, I hope you enjoyed that little behind the scenes story.  I gave you the Reader’s Digest version 😉   Be of good cheer, and…

Until next time, may happy days abound!

River Runs Deep Update

Good day, Everyone…Welcome to Leisure Lane!

I hope you’re all having a good day.  The weather here has been hot then cool, then hot…well, you get the idea.  I am enjoying the cool days and exceptionally grateful for every one of them.

I promised to keep you posted on the progress of my newest novella,  River Runs Deep.  I have recently finished chapter 7 and the cover.  For something that was going to be a simple romance, I seem to be getting all caught up with it, finding myself wanting to talk about the characters and story-line.  But my friends, both young and…not as young ;)…are more anxious to read it and don’t want to know the details.  So, I guess that’s another incentive to keep writing and finish it.

Once the book is finished and ready for publishing, I’ll tell you what led me to write it.

Be blessed today, my friends, and…

Until next time, may happy days abound.

A Gift That Won’t Pail in Comparison

Happy day to everyone.  I’m excited to see you today, and to share the pretty pail gift idea I’ve prepared for a friend.  If you remember in my last post, where I shared her decorated birthday tag, I mentioned that she loves butterflies – so, I decided to make that the theme.  When I found this delightful small metal pail at the dollar store, I knew it would make the perfectly fun and creative receptacle for her gift items.  A crinkled yellow bow and dimensional butterfly top it all off.

You can see the handmade tag tucked in.

I wrapped some of the items in decorated napkins.

Give someone a gift today.  It doesn’t matter how little or big it is – a smile, a kind word, a compliment, something you bought with them in mind – it only matters that it comes from your heart.  If you open your heart, God will guide you to a variety of ways you can create a smile.  Sow delightful seeds of joy in someone’s life and you will have a big harvest in yours.

Thank you for strolling by Leisure Lane today.  I hope you enjoyed your visit and it sparked some good ideas for you, too.  May your day be filled with blessings, and…

Until next time, may happy days abound!

More Sweet Vintage

IMG_2236Good day, friends…

I hope you are experiencing a bit cooler temps than we are here.  It was 113 yesterday! And if you aren’t then I pray you all remain as cool as possible, and enjoy what is left of the summer.

It seems heaven is having fun blessing me with a couple of more cottage warming blessings.  As I was dropping off more boxes filled with donations to my local charity shop, I stayed inside for a while to cool off, and these delightful beauties called my name.  This dresser topper’s hand embroidered baskets of abundant flowers echo my feelings of abundant blessings.

IMG_2237The colors are so pretty, and the crochet edging simply delights me.  All the loving care that went into these will not be underestimated by me.

IMG_2239The scallop sides add a graceful touch, don’t you think?

IMG_2235And this little beauty, is the exact color of two crocheted edged squared linens I bought once at a garage sale.  So it will match perfectly with them, especially with my autumn decor.

These were such fun and pleasant little surprises, which I am so grateful for.  And all they need is a little gentle washing and blocking again so they can shine their best.

Thank you for letting me share these with you today.  I must get to my continued packing and organizing.  I will be very busy with all of this for the next few weeks, so if I miss coming by your blogs, know that I am thinking of you, and will be visiting you as soon as I can.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Love Grows Here

Good day to all,

It’s so nice to see your shining light, gracing my corner of the world on Leisure Lane.  I hope you are all well.

As I’ve mentioned in a previous post, I am moving.  So to update you, the date has been finalized, and I’ll be transferring to my new place the end of this month.  I’ll be quite busy preparing, so I may or may not be able to post much, so please bear with ♥

I’ve been making some stops at our local charity/thrift store, donating some things as I clear away some of the old to make way for the new.  But I usually take a quick look around to see what treasures they may have acquired (I have to remind myself NOT to purchase back my own things 😉 ).

My recent trip presented me with the above sweetness.  Isn’t she a beauty?  So lovingly cross stitched…and the sentiment is perfect; something I want to surround myself with – Love Grows Here.  I haven’t decided what I want to do with it yet…a pillow, or hem and crochet the edges, or simply framed.  I may frame it for now until I decide.

IMG_2234Every time I look at it, I’ll enjoy the colors, and appreciate the time that each little stitch required.

I hope you enjoyed your stroll by here today.  Remember to grow love wherever you are…seed it, water it, and shine your smiles upon it.  Then give it into the hands of the Eternal One, and watch it bloom, coloring your Life in so many wonderful ways.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

New Find for New Beginnings

IMG_2231Good day, Friends,

I’m so glad you are joining me today because I’d like to show you this lovely vintage table runner I found at my local thrift store.  As you may know, I am making some changes in my life.  At the moment I’m not sure where or when, but nevertheless, changes are on the horizon.  So I’ve been cleaning and clearing out some things in my apartment.  When I brought some items to the thrift store, I noticed this perfectly cheerful, hand embroidered vintage table runner.

IMG_2232The colors are exactly my cup of tea, and isn’t the crochet edging divine?  It had nary a spot and was as crisp and clean as could be.  It felt and looked like it had been lovingly taken care of and starched.  I apologize for the wrinkles in it.  They occurred in my car while folded from all the heat and humidity.  But wrinkles can be ironed out – at least on linens 😉

I have very rarely seen items like this in this particular shop, and so I feel like this is a God present for my new beginnings, and I am delightfully grateful!!  ♥ ♥ ♥

While I’m showing you some pretty things, here are the other cups I bought some time back at my local Tuesday Morning. If you missed the post with the first cup, you can view it here.

Love the colors and this also has the flowers inside the cup for cheery sipping.

IMG_2182Although I’m not a wide mug person, I couldn’t resist this pretty thing with the blue toile look.  Both of these cups are made in England, and are such fun for me.

Thank you for strolling by today.  I hope you enjoyed your visit.  I love hearing from you, so don’t be shy, and say ‘hello’.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Her Purple Life

pageHello friends,

I’d like to say, “Welcome”, to my new followers.  I hope your strolls by Leisure Lane are always leisurely and pleasant.

My sister has always loved purple.  Since childhood, purple was her favorite color, and that hasn’t changed over the years.  All shades and hues of the color delight her.  Unfortunately, when she was a young girl, purple was not the choice of color given to her when it came to gifts and the like – leaving her to feel a bit undertoned.  When she got older, she treated herself to purple pleasures, and feels one can never have too much purple…her husband disagrees 😉

Lately I’d been sending her all sorts of beautiful purple pics I’d see on Pinterest…so much so, that I decided to create boards just for her and her purple loving life.  Denise’s Favorites, The Garden of Her Purple Life, and Clothes That Get Her Purple On.  If you love purple, too, you’ll love these boards.

So when it came time to collect fun things for her birthday this July, I knew I wanted to give her the purple she’s always desired, and I was blessed to find so many purple sensations to please her fancy.

IMG_2223These beautiful boxes were found at the dollar store, and when I saw them it was love at first sight.  I texted her photos of them, and she said ‘YES’!  Not only were they purple, but she loves birds, too.  It was a lot of fun to make a collection of as many pretty things I could find. (I bought a couple for me, too 😉  )

IMG_2224I filled this box with matching gift bag, and smaller boxes, and pretty ribbon.  My sister is a most giving person, and she’ll find use for these items, I’m sure.

IMG_2222A few lovely journals (one that matches the boxes, lovely napkins of the same design, perfectly happy and decorative kitchen towels I found at Tuesday Morning all wrapped up with a pretty lavender bow are sure to make her smile.

IMG_2207The last gift, which took a bit longer for me to accomplish is this fillet crocheted square doily. The picot edging is pretty on its own, but I decided to add beading.

IMG_2219IMG_2220I folded it neatly and put it inside of the birdhouse box along with a couple of other goodies.  Now to pack it all up and off to the post office.  Her gift is a bit late, but she celebrates birthday month nowadays, so though I missed her early July birthday, I’m still good. I’m so excited about her receiving it, you’d think it was my birthday!

Well, that’s my happy post for the day.  I hope you enjoyed it.  And I hope you surround yourself with your favorite colors, aromas, and sounds.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

The Presence of Friends

Maud Humphrey

Friends are sometimes like a bellows on dying embers, recharging us with encouraging words, or a hug and a smile. They are often the only ones available to stand in the gap, or on rare occasions to pray big and move mountains.  But I am prone to wonder of the more meaningful…

                                  Presence of Friends

Because of friends… our mail boxes are more cheerful, our birthdays are happier, and our hearts more likely to shine on a rainy day.
Because of friends…our tears don’t fall alone, our laughter is heartier, and our days have more purpose.
Because of friends…a movie is more interesting, an outing more exciting, and a caffè latte more flavorful.
Because of friends…the moon seems bigger, the stars twinkle more, and a sunset is more glorious.
Because of friends…we have more memories, we smile more often, and our lives are more colorful.

Friends, no matter how many or how few, how far or how near, are treasures worth cherishing.

Thank you, my friends, for joining me today.  I hope you are having a joyous day.  If this made you think of a friend, drop him a note, or give her a call.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Marianne ♥
