God’s Amazing Grace
by Marianne Coyne
Grace is amazing favor given to us by God purely out of His unconditional love for us. It is not based on our merit or the things we do, but rather based on his love alone. This is true. However, when we live by the advice of God, and our thoughts, words, and actions are in the same rightness as His, then we remove obstacles, and have greater access to His grace or favor.
If I want to show my love for you, but you are in a room with the door closed, and you will not open the door to me, I can still speak out my love for you through the closed door, but the fullness of my love cannot be received or experienced. But when you open the door, I can come in and embrace you, kiss you, give you the gifts I have for you, and shine my smile upon you. You can experience the fullness of my love for you because you’ve removed the obstacle which separated you from my love.
It is the same when we choose to either live from the rightness of God through his advice and the acceptance of His love for us, which will open us to greater access of His grace, or choose to live without his advice, and the unacceptance or doubt of His love for us, which will separate us more from his grace; either way, his grace is always available and existent for us to receive regardless of what we do. How much of it we receive has to do with our ‘merit’-our thoughts, words, and actions; not because He is keeping it from us, but rather because we are keeping it from fully flowing to us.
God is always giving us grace. What are the obstacles in your life which may be hindering the flow of His divine abundance for you? Is it unbelief, taking and holding on to offenses, guilt, worry, fear, or seeing God in the image of man?
Let us choose to remove the obstacles, by being conscientious in our choices to be loving toward ourselves and others, to have happy thoughts, to be thankful receivers and joyful givers, and to keep our minds peaceful. Then, the showers of blessings can reach us unfettered, swirl around and through us, delighting and giving life to our spirit, soul, and body. And then, oh, how then, we can be the blessing we wish to be to the world around us.
