I’ve been wanting to transform a mini composition journal I’ve had for quite some time. I had some ideas in mind, but nothing seemed to motivate me to really sit down and pull the ideas together.
Then a few days ago my neighbor’s mother passed away. We’ve known our neighbor and her family for 19 years. My son grew up with her eldest son and daughter (twins), and I’ve watched all four of her children grow to be fine young adults. I wanted to do something special for her, so I sat down and worked on the journal.
I painted the binding, and used some lovely scrapbook paper for the cover. Then I decorated it with some lace and leaves from a wonderful package I won from Terri at Artful Affirmations. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.
I added some roses I had sculpted many years ago using polymer clay. I also had quite a few rose petals I had also sculpted and incorporated some “falling” petals on the journal.
I thought that she might like to use it to write down some memories of her mom. Upon giving it to her, and to my surprise, she said that she was going to use it for the very thing I had in mind.
Thank you for visiting Leisure Lane. I hope you enjoyed the little rose journal.
Until next time, may happy days abound!
Marianne ♥

That was a thoughtful gesture, Marianne~ The dainty elegant details are lovely. I am sure that she liked the pretty journal and will be comforted when she uses it…but more than that, she will be touched by the thought you put into it.

The journal has turned out so beautifully! I love the soft colors and your roses are so perfect. I love the “falling” pedals! It gives it a “real” touch! A gift from the heart is the best. My condolences to your neighbor.

That’s beautiful and very thoughtful. I’m sorry to hear of their loss and yours.
It’s quite neat that she intends to use it for the same purpose you had in mind. Makes that long wait so very worth it, (to fix it up), doesn’t it?
I signed up for Pink Saturday on Saturday and then got distracted and didn’t get very far into visiting much. So a belated happy Pink Saturday . . . and hugs.

Absolutely beautiful, Marianne, I know your neighbor will teasure it always. Such a thoughtful present for her. Marianne, you asked about the painting of the woman in the bonnet on my header. I think I got that from pinterest. I have been trying to read the artist signature on it and can’t really see it that well. I wish I knew who had painted it. I would love to have a print of it hanging in my home. Hope you have a happy and blessed weekend, dear friend. Sending loads of love to you~Vicki
