Happy Tea Cup

Hello friends…

First, I’d like to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my son, Robert – 22 years!!!

7 months
Where did the time fly?

Now for the the tea cup:

While on an errand I decided to stop into one of the local thrift shops.  There I found a sweet little tea cup with the prettiest, daintiest little floral pattern.  She was only $0.99.  Though missing her saucer mate, she was very happy that I brought her home with me.

She’s made by Noritake – Japan, and her name is Savannah

Isn’t her pattern pretty?  Very delicate, pale pink, blue, and green flowers adorn her.  And she’s trimmed with gold.

She’s very lightweight ~ not cumbersome at all.  My fingers fit perfectly in her handle.  Doesn’t she have a pretty shape?

After a nice bath, I dressed her up in lace to make her feel right at home.

Here you can see the delicate colors of blue, pink, green, and white which grace her on both sides.

I feel very special to have found her, and I’m sure she feels the same.  I think we’ll have a very happy friendship.  I like her just as she is, but who knows, perhaps one day I’ll find her a saucer to be her perfect match.  Until then, she and I will enjoy many cups of warm tea and hot chocolate.

I apologize for the darkness of the photos, but a cold front has decided to visit (yay!), and it got very dark, rainy, and the temperature is dropping as I write this.  I suppose my new found friend and I made it home just in time.

Thank you for strolling by today.  I’m joining Tea Time Tuesday with our host Sandi, and Tea Cup Tuesday with Terri and Martha.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Beauty’s Only Skin Deep

Good Day, friends…

Remember those old adages, “Beauty’s only skin deep,” or “You can’t judge a book by its cover” ?   Well, I learned they were also true when it came to ceramic pretties, such as the one above.

Many years ago I worked part time in a quaint little gift shop.  The owner had some very pretty items there, including that sweet child’s Nippon tea set I showed back on February 1st, 2011.  I didn’t know all that much about ceramics at the time.  I thought that if it went through a firing and was made to drink hot beverages out of then it must be a hardy piece.   Well, I learned that wasn’t always the case.

When I saw this set I was head over heals.  It’s so pretty and cheery, and I just had to have it.  But it’s  one of those ceramic pieces very popular today, but doesn’t hold up very well to the heat.

I’ve learned the feel and sound of this type of ceramic.  If you give it a tap with your fingers you can almost hear a slight hollow sound.  That’s usually a clue to me that though the piece is pretty it most likely won’t last long.

This cup can be stored on top of the teapot.  And see the pretty matching saucer? (If you click on the cup photo you will see the crack inside the cup).

The teapot is so pretty with the roses and stems, and the little cup is a most dainty thing with roses on the handle.  I think you can see why I fell in love with it.  But, alas, both cups have suffered extreme cracks within, so are no longer useful for drinking.  And the red plaid cup has also suffered some chipping damage.

Made by Paper Windows, I was very disappointed that I only got to use them a few times before the damage was evident.

The teapot doesn’t seem to have any cracks, but I think I’ll use it for a flower vase only, and save my teatime for real teapots.  These were just so pretty that I wanted to share them.

I have since then bought a couple of sweet Valentine mugs at a grocery store some years back, but their ceramic makeup is the same, and one of them cracked.  So I’ve learned to stay away from certain types of ceramics.  Has anyone had similar problems?

Today I am joining Teacup Tuesday with Terri, and Tea Time Tuesday with Sandi.  Come and join the fun.  Thank you for strolling by Leisure Lane.  You are always welcome.

Tea Poem Cheer

Welcome, friends…

I know that many of you are very busy with one thing or another…refinishing, restoring, reconstructing, redoing, reorganizing, and that can be rather exhausting.  So for those of  you who could use a little TLC while taking a moment to restore a little of yourself, who are feeling under the weather, or who just want to relax and take a breather, I’d like to encourage you with a poem.

Feel Better Tea Poem

So you say you’re feeling funny;
The sort that needs some tea & honey,
And you only want to sit down and unwind.

Then just put on the kettle,
Take your tea & cup and settle
In the biggest, comfy chair that you can find.

And don’t forget to stir in
All the love that I am sendin’.
Keep good cheer and happy wishes on your mind.
