Love and Blessings Rose Journal

Good day, friends…

I’ve been wanting to transform a mini composition journal I’ve had for quite some time.  I had some ideas in mind, but nothing seemed to motivate me to really sit down and pull the ideas together.

Then a few days ago my neighbor’s mother passed away.  We’ve known our neighbor and her family for 19 years.  My son grew up with her eldest son and daughter (twins), and I’ve watched all four of her children grow to be fine young adults.  I wanted to do something special for her, so I sat down and worked on the journal.

I painted the binding, and used some lovely scrapbook paper for the cover.  Then I decorated it with some lace and leaves from a wonderful package I won from Terri at Artful Affirmations.  It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

I added some roses I had sculpted many years ago using polymer clay.  I also had quite a few rose petals I had also sculpted and incorporated some “falling” petals on the journal.

I thought that she might like to use it to write down some memories of her mom.  Upon giving it to her, and to my surprise, she said that she was going to use it for the very thing I had in mind.

Thank you for visiting Leisure Lane.  I hope you enjoyed the little rose journal.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

For My Dad…A Father’s Day Remembrance

Dear friends…

Welcome to Leisure Lane, as we celebrate Father’s Day.

I didn’t have lazy parents…I rarely saw my parents lounging around doing nothing, except on occasion or late at night.  They were always busy doing something, so I don’t really know where I inherited my laziness.  But that’s a subject for another session…I mean post.

Not all things come up roses all the time, and my dear father battled with a troubled emotional past for most of his life.  But he worked hard to provide for all of us, and he didn’t always have an easy time of it.  He also put aside most of who he really was and what he really had a passion for in order to accomplish this.  But we always had plenty to eat, good clothes to wear, and a good education. And he did it all from Love.

My father loved cardinals, so the following is dedicated to him…a poem I wrote some years ago with him in mind.  An altered picture of one of  the cardinals from my Knittington Fairies collection accompanies it.  Using Photoscape, I’ve added a little Forget-Me-Not flower as a reminder to remember the man who brought me into the world, gave his all, and did his best to sustain me..  I’d like to think the spirit of the cardinal is taking it to him with love from me.

The Cardinal

The cardinal perched upon the limb
And chirped his song most gaily;
Welcoming a new sunrise
As was his custom daily.

 I too, urged by his bright song
Woke to tender recollection;
Thoughts of my two fathers dear
Whom for the cardinal share affection.

 The one, he fondly loved the bird
For its demeanor royal;
The Other, for creating him
Would He remain most loyal.

 And then I thought how both they still
With loving dedication,
Attend the cardinal’s every need
From each one’s heavenly station.

Annual June Wedding Party

Hello Friends,

I was at Bunny Cottage, and Vicki is preparing for the 3rd annual Wedding Party with Stephanie at Angelic Accents on Friday, June 8th.  So I thought it would be nice to join the fun.

In Knittington, even the fairies love weddings.

But I will admit that this would be my ‘dream wedding’ look.  Or at least one of them.

Thank you for visiting Leisure Lane, and remember, the Wedding Blog Party begins this Friday, June 8th.  We’ll be linking to Angelic Accents then.  Be sure to stop by and have some fun.  And “Thank you”, Stephanie, for hosting.

Until next time, may happy days abound!
