Vintage Hankies

Hello friends…

Welcome to Leisure Lane.  I’d like to share some hankies that were my mom’s.   I just think they are lovely things.  I remember seeing these in her dresser drawer when I was a girl.  I think hankies are beautifully feminine, and I would love to bring them back in style.

Aren’t the crocheted edgings delightful?

Very delicate, and yet think how many years these have lasted!

I love the designs, too.  They really inspire me.

And I can keep them all in this beautifully crocheted pouch I found at a local thrift store.  I posted about it in November, and dreamed of it holding some of my mother’s decorative cloth darlings.

I hope you enjoyed the hankies.  Thank you for dropping by.  Your visits and comments are pearls to me.

I’m linking today with Suzanne from Coloradolady for Vintage Thingie Thursday, Liz from The Brambleberry Cottage for Time Travel Thursday, and Sue from It’s a Very Cherry World for Rednesday.

For this Saturday, I’m linking with Beverly from How Sweet the Sound for Pink Saturday.  Put your pink on!

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Whimsy and Smiles From Bee Happy

My dear friends…

Last week I was so surprised to find a package from my dear blogger friend, Deb.  Deb is the host of that fun blog Bee Happy.  I don’t check my mail everyday,  so when I got the inkling to check it that morning, I didn’t hesitate.   The package made me smile!

Of course I didn’t hesitate to open it…even before I ate breakfast, I had to take a peak inside.  Oh, I do love happy surprises…the little child in me gets very excited.

Inside was a sweet card with her slogan “Keep Calm and Bee Happy”, and dear words of friendship inside.  She also included her card and a fun sticker with the same slogan.  I certainly will use that on my next card or letter…good reminders, Deb.

And all wrapped up in a little package with pretty rick-rack ribbon is her famous ribbon sprig.  I’ve had it hooked to my purse, as it lends a whimsical touch to it.  But to show it off here I’ve attached it to these very pretty pink roses I bought myself last night.  Oh, their fragrance is heavenly!

I love the ribbon and pretty buttons she used.

And look…she even embroidered “With Love from Bee Happy”  on one of the ribbons.  I just love the little ribbon roses, too.

THANK YOU, DEB!

Stop by Bee Happy to visit with Deb, and while you’re there check out her Home and Accessory shop.

Thank your for visiting me at Leisure Lane.  Come back again soon.  And until next time, may happy days abound!

More Pen Sketches

Good day, friends…

The other evening I worked on some more pen sketches.  As you can see they’re done on a regular colored paged pad – nothing fancy.

One thing I discovered…

…slouching on the couch is not the ideal position to sketch these…col…

But it was still fun!  The arrow has been a recurring object in many of my past pen line drawings.  And it appeared again here.

In this one I just let my hand go free.   I like the effect.  It’s ‘far out’…does anyone say that anymore?

It’s always good to see you.  Thank you for visiting Leisure Lane.  You are complete, whole, and prospering everyday.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Heavenly Reminder

My dear friends,

I had already created a post for today, when I inadvertently came across “Praises Sung”, a post I created on May 20, 2011.  As I was reading it I was profoundly struck, as recently I have been entering into a new level of Life.

You know how you can learn things at a certain point in time, and then later…maybe weeks, months, even years…the same information is brought in front of you again, usually just at the time you are experiencing a shift in your spiritual journey.   Well, that’s what’s been going on with me this past week.

I believe that when we feel the most neglected is the point in space and time when a door is opening for us to move to a higher level.  (And what I’m realizing is that these feelings of being ‘most neglected’ may appear many times in our lives)  If we walk through that door then we will experience God’s best.  If we don’t, then again at some point the same information will present itself to us for another chance for advancement.

There is a door opening at this moment in my Life…a spiritual door that, as I walk through, will be the point of amazing creation for a better earthly experience.  Oh, it makes me smile to walk through this glorious door.

So, my friends, I felt compelled to reprint here part of the post I wrote on May 20, 2011.  I don’t think it was a random circumstance that I came across it today.  It spoke to me once again from the heart of God, and I hope, wherever you are in your journey, it can speak to you.  It is as follows:

“…when [the] meat of marriage is set before you, and the Lord says, “My wooing has ended, but My Love for you is beyond your ability to measure.  Will you still sing My praises when, for some circumstance, you cannot feel Me near and think Me far off?  Or will  you learn to know Me, and how much closer I am to you than your breath…this is for you to know, for remember, I already know every inch of you, my beloved.”

Then a new journey begins.  One in which stretches and strengthens your trust, until one cannot tell where the Lover ends and the Beloved begins.  When the two become One.”

If you are interested in reading the whole post you may click here.

Thank you for visiting.  May you experience much love and peace within your soul, and may you create a life of well-being…the life God wants you to live.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Stargazer and Hydrangea

Hello friends…

Some people bring home stray animals, I bring home stray clearance plants.  Like this beautiful Stargazer Lily!

Only one flower was opened when I brought it home a few days ago…look at it now!

The flower is lovely and the fragrance is divine.  I slipped off the pollen pads which doesn’t affect the fragrance at all.

I also brought home this beautiful hydrangea plant.  I just transplanted it in the front where it will get lots of shade.  Remember I live in good ole’  (SE) Texas where everything’s big including the heat and humidity index.

I paid only $5.oo each.

I also finally transplanted the miniature rose bushes I bought last year.  I hope they bloom better in the ground.  They didn’t do very well in the pots.

I am blessed because God has favored me with these beautiful flowers to nurture and enjoy.  What unexpected surprises did you bring home this week?

Joining Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for Pink Saturday.  You’re welcome to join the fun.  Thank you for visiting Leisure Lane.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

A Little Something Extra

A quick sketch I made last night to keep the creativity flowing.

My Soul’s Garden

Some years ago, friends, I entered an art show.  The theme included using a cigar box or boxes.  A friend gave me the box, and I knew exactly what I wanted to make ~ A secret garden, if you will, featuring one of my love prayers and dialogues.

The door design was a Moroccan inspiration.  I drew the design onto the wood, and hand carved it.  Then I stained the door, and roughed the edges a bit to age it.  I found a screw-on picture hanger that worked perfectly for the door’s handle.

Both sides of the box were covered with some stones that I stained by hand to match the door.  I glued them on, then cemented around them.  These represent a wall.

Shall we enter?

As we enter in, we see the love prayer nailed to the door.  I hand wrote the prayer, then stained the paper, wet the edges and rolled them to age it.

The prayer is read as we enter in.

I used some fabric and netting that I had purchased at a garage sale once.  I knew they would come in handy one day.  The orchid represents the flower of faith. I made it out of porcelain, and my former ceramics professor was kind enough to lend me the clay and fire it for me.

Behind the beaded veil are the five ‘weeds’ of doubt…worry, fear, unbelief, hopelessness, and trials – written in gold on a round mirror.  The shot gun shell has a twofold representation…the violent emotion we put ourselves through with our doubts, as well as representing how faith can come from ‘violent’ effort.

Behind the shear side curtains there are garden images of statues and a garden pillar and ball, with some ivy growing along side.   I don’t remember anymore the many hours of hard work put into preparation and creating this piece, but I do remember enjoying every minute..except for when I had some trouble getting the door on.  That took some ingenuity and patience.

I hope you enjoyed your visit into my garden.  I’m glad you came by to visit me here on Leisure Lane.

Until next time, may happy days abound!

For My Mother On Her Special Day

My mother’s precious heart taught me love.  One day I asked her how I could repay that love, and she told me to pass it on to my son.  I love you, mommy!  You passed on to me love, nurturing and compassion.

May all mothers enjoy their special day, knowing that you are blessed by God.  He made you especially to give His kisses to His children.  Happy Mother’s Day from Leisure Lane!

Until next time, may happy days abound!

Blue Feather

Recently I posted a couple of ink drawings which I did back in 2010 (click here to see post).  In that post the leaf spirit  holds a blue feather in one hand.  I had mentioned in the post that my interest in the blue feather had re-emerged  that year, and then recently I discovered a painting I had done in my late teens.  The date in the painting is 1972.

I was very surprised when I discovered this because I had forgotten about it, and the blue feather startled me in the sense that apparently blue feathers have held a special unknown meaning to me though I’d gone 38 years without thinking about it until recent years.

The beautiful poem in not mine, but was taken from a book I have of Native American poetry.   It is beautiful, isn’t it?

For me now, the blue feather represents ‘Grace’, and I wanted to share it with you.

May each of you experience the gift of Grace in every area of your lives.  And as the poem says, may also your inward parts be moved with joy.

I will be posting a reformed cigar box very soon, so come back to visit me at Leisure Lane.  Until next time, may happy days abound!

Bee Happy and Win!

Good day friends,

Deb, from Bee Happy, is having a giveaway celebrating the ‘hard copy’ print of her new book, Diary of A House Move.  Be sure to stop by her place and enter to win a signed copy.  The closing date is Saturday, May 12th.

Can you imagine snuggling up with a cup of tea (oooo, I like the pink packaging, don’t you?), and reading all about the ups and downs, ins and outs, laughter and tears of moving (as long as I’m not the one doing it, of course).  But who knows, one might learn a thing or two with some humor, in case a move arises.

Joining Pink Saturday today, showing off some terrific pinks.  Until next time, may happy days abound!
